At Little Smiles of Levittown, we have taken advantage of an important technological advancement in dentistry and proudly use The Wand® in our office, also known as Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA).
What is The Wand®?
The Wand® allows us to give a virtually painless injection when numbing a child’s tooth. Controlled by a computer, this device allows us to deliver local anesthesia at a slow and steady rate that is particularly more comfortable for children. The local anesthetic is given in the space between the tooth and gums instead of directly into the tissue itself. The advantage of this kind of injection is that we are able to numb only the specific tooth we are treating.
Benefits of The Wand®
- We are able to prevent the surrounding tissues from also getting numb, which eliminates the risk of your child accidentally biting his or her cheek, lips, or tongue.
- In addition to being more comfortable for your child, this simpler anesthetic delivery system is also much easier for us as pediatric dentists, both mentally and physically.
- The appearance of the Wand® does not cause fear, since it looks more like a pen than a traditional syringe.
